The ease of moving around and the relative safety of Singapore make it most enjoyable for any visitor who likes the free-and-easy kind of touring. Visitors to Singapore are often pleasantly surprised by this miracle city, which has the world's best airport, one of the world's busiest seaports and is regarded by business travellers the world over as the "Best Business Destination."

Shopping

Orchard Road, the must-visit shopping destination in Singapore, is a one-way street flanked by distinctive shopping malls on both sides of the road promising to please any taste or budget. The shopping belt comprises nearly 800,000 sq m of stores and restaurants, from designer brands to fast fashion and from upscale restaurants to food courts.

Together with favourites Tangs Plaza, Centrepoint, Wisma Atria, Paragon, and Ngee-Ann City, Orchard has three new malls: the Ion Orchard, 313@Somerset and the Orchard Central.

Traditional Attractions

Traditional attractionsSingapore's cultural and heritage trips showcase the old traditions which are still very much alive. Get a blast from the past by heading down to any of these ethnic enclaves: Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Arab Street and Little India. Each quarter unveils traditional artefacts, clothing, ethnic delicacies and other cultural treasures.

For starters, you could enjoy the Chinese antiques, traditional costumes or calligraphy of Chinatown, then have a whiff of assorted spices at Little India and purchase a sari or some jewellery for a loved one. Finally, hurry down to Kampong Glam and Arab Street for bazaar-style shopping and be intrigued by the exquisitely hand-made batiks from Indonesia and Malaysia - without ever leaving the country!

Recent and Upcoming Attractions

Two massive developments on the entertainment scene are the integrated resorts: Marina Bay Sands (a world-class luxury resort and casino with convention facilities and upmarket restaurants) and Resorts World, Sentosa, which houses Southeast Asia's first Universal Studios Theme Park, the world's largest marine life park, and six hotels.s

Come 2011, visit the Gardens by the Bay, which will comprise of three waterfront gardens in the Marina Bay area. Visitors to the Gardens will be greeted with a super surprise; they will be dwarfed by SuperTrees - tree-like structures that measure up to 16 storeys high! This lush-looking bay area will surely support the Singapore dream of being ‘A City in a Garden'.

Don't miss out the current attractions as well!

Travel Beyond Singapore

Singapore's strategic position has helped it grow into a major centre for trade, communications and tourism. Its geographical location is 136.8 km north of the equator, between longitudes 103 degrees 38' E and 104 degrees 06' E.

It is linked to Malaysia by two causeway bridges, and the key islands of the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia are just a quick ferry trip away. Thailand and the Philippines are a short plane journey away. Singapore, with an airport served by more than 69 airlines, is very much the gateway to Southeast Asia.

Likewise, because of its central location and extensive airline connections, Singapore is the perfect gateway to Asia and Australasia. Visiting neighbouring countries is a breeze, indeed!
